Becoming a Working Parent

I (Calla) became a mother at the end of 2025, and officially became a “working parent.” I thought that becoming one would be an easy transition, as I had been watching Alex and Jess doing it for years.

It wasn’t.
The days of working from home? Includes a crying lil’ guy who mostly just wants his mom to hold him. The guilt of “phubbing” him because he’s watching me sit on my computer during the times he’s awake. Feeling like I’m trying to show up well for my son, for my coworkers, and for my husband when he gets home. (And let's be honest, also trying not to be resentful towards my husband for being gone all day.)

And the days I got to go into the office? Figuring out when to pump, trying to decide how much caffeine to consume, and whether it was going to mess up my kid later on. All while feeling guilty if I wasn’t missing my son all that much because I was just so happy to be at the office with my pals.
I’m not saying anything other mothers probably haven’t experienced. I’m not the only one who’s felt any of these feelings. I recently read another blog about working parents, and it reminded me of the beauty of where I work.

We prioritize relationships. We care about our clients, and we care deeply about who they are as people. We also care deeply about our team and acknowledge the fact that we are human. We have kids, pets, medical appointments, and everything in between.
We work hard for the people we work for. We also understand that life happens. A kid gets sick at school and needs to come home. A babysitter fell through, and you need to stay home. A pet needs surgery, a friend needs a ride.
It’s not us “balancing life.” It’s not about “doing it all.” It’s making quick changes as things come up, stepping in to help each other, and all the while producing beautiful work. It’s like a constant team project, except no one is secretly bitter when someone doesn’t do their bit. We step up, help each other out, and move on to the next one.
And becoming a parent? It adds to the joy of my life. And Yellow Lime provides me the flexibility to be both a parent and a teammate.
Cheers to all the working parents out there. You’re doing amazing work, raising incredible children and #gettingitdone.
