We’ve worked with Scott DeBoer (and his wife, Katie DeBoer) since 2018 (before Yellow Lime even began!).
Scott is one of the owners of Godwin Plumbing, located in Godwin Heights in Grand Rapids, MI.
They’re a local midsize business focused on excellent service, relationships, and community support. At Yellow Lime, we’re proud to work with such an awesome company and stellar team! And we want to share a little bit about their story with you.
Scott's Journey to Godwin
Scott didn’t grow up yearning to be a plumber (surprising, we know). After high school, he wanted to get into engineering and architecture and attended community college for AutoCAD. At the time, the plumbing industry was switching from hand-drawn blueprints to AutoCAD. When Scott’s uncle, who was a partner at Godwin, asked if he wanted a job, Scott thought, “Why not?” and he joined their team. He started to teach the plumbing team AutoCAD, and they said, “Why don’t you learn plumbing so you know more about what you’re designing?” So Scott worked for 3 ½ years in the field, learned plumbing, and he’s been at Godwin now for 28 years (as of 2022).

But the BEST part of this story is what happened in Scott’s early days at Godwin. One of the other owners at Godwin had an aunt who worked to clean the store a few times a week. She would sometimes bring in her niece, Katie, to help out in the afternoons (do you see where this is going?). The aunt thought Scott and Katie would be a good couple and played matchmaker. And they’ve been married for 20 years 💛
In 2014, Scott became a partner and now oversees the service department and the hardware store as well as the design center. His favorite part about his job is solving problems for customers and the team. He loves finding creative solutions that work for everyone!

“Godwin’s Got It!” has been Godwin’s slogan for decades, and it’s still true today. They’ve been around since 1955, starting as a hardware store in Godwin Heights (a neighborhood in Grand Rapids, MI). They quickly added plumbing services and supply, and then grew into commercial and residential plumbing, HVAC, design, and water treatment. Godwin’s mission is: To provide our customers with the best customer service, treating our employees and their families as if they were ours, and giving back to our community.
